Series; The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido, 1852
Shimmachi: Nakamura Utaemon - Interesting kabuki portrait of Nakamura Utaemon as an unhappy commoner, grimacing as he looks to the side, his chin tilted to his chest. He bites his lower lip as he frowns, tucking one hand inside his intricately patterned striped kimono. His hair is pulled back into a slender topknot, and a blue and white cloth is tied around his neck. The landscape above shows a peaceful view of Shinmachi, the rooftops of the village nestled along the edge of the river, a distant mountain shaded in gray. A terrific image, beautifully detailed with embossing in the kimono and the red under robe.
