Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.
Eight Views of the Sumida River: Night Rain at Massaki - Handsome view of Massaki along the Sumida River during an evening shower. Two figures under umbrellas huddle beneath tall pine trees next to a stone torii gate flanked by stone lanterns. Rain slants across the darkening sky, with pines dotting the opposite shore. An attractive design with fine bokashi shading in the water and sky. Rarely seen in reprint.
