The Seventh Month

Series; The Twelve Months, 1854

The Seventh Month - Lovely triptych depicting three beauties on a verandah in the seventh month, enjoying a feast of crab and other delicacies. The woman in the center offers at bite to her companion, extending her chopsticks with a smile. The beauty at left leans forward to take the food, a cup of sake in her other hand. At right, another woman carries a small blue and porcelain covered dish, her gray kimono decorated with blossom and bird cages. A full moon glows above the water at left, and ships are anchored in the harbor for the night. Red and white paper lanterns hang overhead. A charming subject, wonderfully detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 29 1/2" x 14 1/8"

Condition - This triptych with excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. A few small wormholes repaired from reverse. Some minor rubbing and soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
