by Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) and Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido by Two Brushes
Yoshida: Great Bridge on the Toyokawa River, 1855 - Attractive design from an interesting collaborative Tokaido series by Hiroshige and Toyokuni III. A young couple kneels relaxes in the foreground, the beauty smiling happily as she gestures towards a lamp with her folding fan. Her companion frowns as he scratches his head in a puzzled manner. Hiroshige's landscape above features the great bridge over the Toyokawa River, with travelers making their way across the structure and boats of all sizes moving up and down the water. The opposite shore is lined with tall pine trees, with the towers of a castle rising above the treetops in the distance. A handsome image from this interesting series.
