Sumida River Ferry Crossing, circa 1843 - 1846 - Handsome triptych depicting a ferry crossing on the Sumida River in Edo. In the boat at right, two women share an umbrella as a young child peers over the edge into the water. In the front of the vessel, a beauty shades her eyes as she scans the scene, the woman beside her holding a blossoming cherry branch. Along the left bank, a torii gate leads to a shrine, the fenced grounds dotted with flowering cherry trees, while pine trees are scattered across the marshy ground at right. Egrets fly overhead, while a black bird hovers above the water at lower left. Wonderful detail in this charming scene from daily life, with fine bokashi shading in the water.

Condition - This triptych with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Tear at left edge repaired. A few small holes repaired Soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
