Burning a Beauty's Arm

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene depicting a man preparing to burn a beauty's arm with a red hot poker. He grasps her extended arm by the wrist, the burning poker in his other hand, pausing to look back over his shoulder with a grim scowl. The woman turns her face away with a rather crazed expression, holding her sleeve back with one hand. Her kimono trails on the floor around her, as does her long black obi. A shelf above the couple holds a household shrine, with various objects, including an oil lamp and letters. An intriguing subject with expressive figures.
