Three Street Knights, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of three otokodate or street knights standing on an embankment along the water. The man at right grimaces at his companion as he adjusts a towel draped over his shoulder. The fellow at left stares ahead with a worried frown, while the boy in the middle looks up with a rather confused expression. Each wears a boldly pattered kimono tied with a black and yellow striped obi, a sword at his side and a shakuhachi flute tucked at his back. A few egrets or herons fly overhead, and a rosy glow spreads over the horizon as the sun sets. Nicely colored with expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 9 3/4" x 14 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail. Some light toning at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
