Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Poet and Monk, 1854

Comments - Interesting kabuki print showing a nobleman surrounded by young monks dancing about. The courtier wears a blue and yellow tunic and a tall court cap, a bow at his side. The young boys wear white kimono shaded in blue and tucked into black robes, waving their arms as they strike poses. Two slightly older monks wear yellow robes, the seated man at lower left holding a folding fan and carrying a maple branch with a gourd container tied to it, while the standing man grips an umbrella with a tall handle. A circular inset at upper right shows a worried looking man. Attractively colored and detailed with simulated wood grain in the black ground and embossing in the white and yellow robes, and blossoming plum branch overhead.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 9 5/8" x 13 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail. A couple minor holes repaired at left edge. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
