47 Ronin, Act 3

Comments - Interesting kabuki triptych featuring two scenes from Act 3 of the "Kanadehon Chushingura," based on the true story of the 47 ronin. In a scene from Act 3, Lord Moronao insults Lord Hangan, waving a fan in front of his face. He grimaces angrily, glaring over his shoulder at Lord Wakasanosuke who stands at left, a witness to Moronao's abusive behavior. At right, Lord Hangan's retainer Kampei decides to elope with his sweetheart, the beauty Okaru, the pair shown leaving the palace with guards in pursuit behind them, the with entrance gate beyond and a blossoming cherry tree overhead. A handsome design with large figures and lively color.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 3/8" + margins

Condition - This triptych with excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. A bit of light soiling. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
