Courtesan under a Cherry Tree

Comments - Lovely kabuki portrait of a courtesan standing under a cherry tree, looking ahead with a dismayed expression, her mouth slightly agape. She wears a pretty kimono shaded from gray to light blue, patterned with a variety of toys, including dolls and shells for a poetry matching game. Her red obi features a fierce dragon, and her hair is pulled back into a long ponytail, with many hairpins and combs atop her head. Branches covered with pink blossoms frame the sky overhead. An attractive design with embossing in the white kimono collar and nice color.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 15 1/4" x 10 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail. One wormhole in upper right, repaired from revers. See photos. Nice overall.
