Fukushima: Matsumoto Koshiro V

Series; The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido, 1852

Fukushima: Matsumoto Koshiro V - Handsome kabuki portrait of Matsumoto Koshiro V as a commoner, scowling unhappily as he looks ahead. He pushes up the sleeve of his boldly patterned kimono with one hand, a blue towel draped over his shoulder. His thinning hair is pulled back into a slender topknot tied with white cord. A cloud-like border separates the figure from a view of a bridge at Fukushima, with mountains in the distance and grasses lining the edge of the water. Nicely detailed with soft bokashi shading and fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - Approximately 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Faint vertical center fold. Minor separation at ends of fold, repaired from reverse. Minor thinning along center fold and at edges in some prints. Remnants from previous backing on some prints. Please see photos for a sense of individual condition. Generally in nice condition overall.
