Girls in a Parody of the Battle of Dan-no-ura, 1843 - 1847

Comments - Attractive scene of beauties in a pleasure boat in an unusual parody of the famous naval Battle of Dan-no-ura. The women are enjoying refreshments in the cool evening air, the beauty at right pouring a cup of sake for her companion. She wears a tie-dyed blue and white kimono with a large butterfly design. The beauty at left uses a knife to pare a fruit, the peel curling down over her lap. A reed blind is rolled up overhead, and the large wooden pilings of a bridge are visible in the background. A charming subject, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
