Excursion to the Hills

Series; Inner Chiyoda Palace (Chiyoda no Ooku)

Excursion to the Hills - Lovely triptych of a high ranking court lady accompanied by two attendants, returning to her palanquin after viewing the cherry blossoms during an excursion to the hills. She wears a sumptuous kimono patterned with delicate wisteria blossoms and vines. At right a beauty kneels beside the elaborate palanquin, which features black lacquer and brass fittings. A younger woman at left carries a parcel wrapped in fine cloth and tied with a cord. A very attractive print with soft shading in the background and embossed detail in the white kimono trim. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 7/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams, backed with paper. One pinhole near top edge. Slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
