Original 19th century Japanese Woodblock Print
Warriors and Beauty Drinking Sake

Comments - Attractive kabuki triptych showing a beauty kneeling on the floor drinking sake, a red lacquer cup in her hand. She waves her sleeve at the samurai standing at left, smiling over her shoulder at him. He glares back at her angrily, holding an offering tray with vases on it in his outstretched hand. The warrior at right frowns solemnly as he looks down, slowly drawing his sword from its scabbard. The young woman wears a lovely black kimono patterned with blossoms and wavy yellow lines, a cluster of flowers adorning the top of her hair. Two large bird cages rest on the ground nearby. An interesting scene with fine bokashi shading in the sky.
