Giving a Matron Money

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a couple outside the entrance to a mansion. The young woman in the center pours a handful of coins into the outstretched hands of a matron, who stares up at her with a grimace. The man at right scratched his head in a puzzled manner, perhaps wondering where the money came from. The beauty wears a gray and blue striped kimono over a red under robe, tied with a yellow and brown plaid obi. Her hair is pulled back into a knot with a white ribbon, a comb slipping loose from the side of her head. She smiles happily as she watches the matron out of the corners of her eyes. Nice large expressive figures with a handsomely detailed setting.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/2" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams and lightly toned throughout. A couple small holes and tears along edges with Faint spotting and soiling in subject with remnants from previous backing along edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
