Fireworks over Ryogoku Bridge

Comments - Terrific depiction of pedestrians crowding Ryogoku Bridge on a summer night to view the fireworks display. People are packed shoulder to shoulder, with a father in a checked kimono lifting his son on his shoulder to watch the explosions. The child looks up with a delighted smile, waving his hand at the starry sky. Several beauties stand next to him, one holding up a lantern, while another rests her hand on the railing, looking down at the river below. Below, boatmen pole a pleasure boat between the pilings, crouching on the cabin of the boat. A wonderful illustration of this favorite summer activity.

Artist - Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 9 5/8"
