Street Knight, Beauty, and Samurai, 1852

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a beauty entertaining an otokodate or street knight and a samurai. She leans against a wooden pillar in the center, smiling over her shoulder at the street knight as she extends a pipe in her right hand. The warrior draws his sword with a worried frown, hunching forward with a distressed expression. The young rogue sits quietly in another room at left, resting his hands atop a shakuhachi flute, staring distractedly at the woman. Colorful hydrangea blossoms grow up a trellis in the garden between the structures, with a stone lantern at left and leaves framing the blue sky. An interesting subject with attractive color and a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 28 5/8" x 14"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Backed with old paper. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. Some light staining in subject. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
