Original Kuniaki II (1835 - 1888) Japanese Woodblock Print
Report of the Nation's Victory, 1877

Comments - Handsome triptych showing a gathering of the ladies-in-waiting at the Meiji Imperial Palace. They are seated around a table covered with a floral cloth, preparing linen and bandages for the Imperial Army during the Satsuma Rebellion. The women smile and talk excitedly as the empress arrives at right, bringing news of a rumored Meiji victory over the rebellious samurai. Wonderful detail in the elegant household furnishings and fine embossing in the white kimono. An attractive design.

Artist - Kuniaki II (1835 - 1888)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28 1/8" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams and lightly toned throughout. Minor thinning and tearing along edges and at corners, repaired from reverse and colored to match. Faint spotting and rubbing in subject with areas of soiling along edges. Slight ink offsetting in margins. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
