The Regent Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu

Series; The New Biography of Toyotomi Hideyoshi

The Regent Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu - Intriguing scene of Hideyoshi in his role as kampaku or regent to the emperor during a meeting with Tokugawa Ieyasu, who would later become the first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Hideyoshi stands in a tower, gesturing towards the sea with his fan as he glares sternly over his shoulder. Ieyasu kneels beside him, looking straight ahead rather than at Hideyoshi. Both men wear vests over suits of armor and black court cap. An enormous red sun glows on the horizon as it sets, spreading a warm low over the shimmering water. A castle can be seen at lower left with a tower rising above the trees, and gray smoke drifting skyward from two fires. A handsome design with a striking composition, nicely detailed with burnishing in the black caps and bokashi shading in the sky.
