Conflict in an Interior, 1885

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a conflict taking place in an interior. At right, a man has jumped to his feet, lunging at his companions with a spear. The seated man in the center regards him solemnly, his hand resting atop the side of an overturned go board. The beauty behind him seems alarmed, throwing her hand out in a stopping gesture, looking at a young fellow at lower left with a rather concerned expression. The room is nicely detailed with elegant lacquer boxes resting on shelves in the center, and a niche with a hanging scroll at right. A handsome design.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Vertical folds near left edge of each panel. Slight thinning and separation along fold lines, repaired, blends well. Slight soiling, faint offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
