Yamaki Hangan Kanetaka - Dramatic image of Yamaki Hangan Kanetaka (Taira no Kanetaka) in his mansion during a night attack by the Minamoto Clan. He stands beside a sliding door, the breeze blowing across the room, gripping a sword and glaring fiercely. Outside, Kato Kagekado, who has seen his enemy's shadow through the screen, places his helmet on the end of his spear and pushes it into the doorway, tricking Kagekado into attacking. The attack leaves Kagekado exposed, allowing Kanetaka to kill him. Kanetaka wears a beautifully embossed gray under robe tucked into softly shaded blue hakama pants, his brocade outer robe pushed down around his waist. An arrow has pierced his kimono, and a sword and other arrows lie on the floor. A great atmospheric scene, beautifully colored and detailed. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
