The Vanguard of Yoshitsune's Army Crosses the Uji River, 1865

Comments - Fantastic triptych of Minamoto forces under the direction of Yoshitsune crossing the swollen Uji River. An elderly general gestures angrily with his fan from the rocky shore, watching as two warriors and their horses bob in the raging water, their heads barely above water. A bridge upstream has been washed away in the flood, with debris drifting down the swift current. Yoshitsune sits on horseback at right, surveying the scene soberly. His faithful retainer Benkei stands beside him, his monk's mantle wrapped around his neck. An incredible image with wonderful detail in the expressive figures and striking natural setting. A great choice for a samurai enthusiast.

Artist - Yoshimori (1830 - 1884)

Image Size - 29" x 14 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Slight toning at edges. A few light spots. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
