Original Sadanobu (1809 - 1879) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Danjuro as Nozarashi Gosuke

Comments - Handsome Osaka kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as the otokodate or street knight Nozarashi Gosuke. He looks over his shoulder with a tight-lipped frown, one arm extending from beneath his black kimono patterned with blue and green lily pad and yellow blossoms. He carries a sword over his shoulder, from which is suspended a wooden sandal with an eerie resemblance to a skull. The portrait if surrounded with a simulated black lacquer frame adorned with lengths of tie-dyed cloth, with kabuki roles listed above. An attractive, colorful design in a rare oban format.

Artist - Sadanobu (1809 - 1879)

Image Size - 9 1/2" x 14" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Thinning at lower left edge, a few small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
