Ox: Robber Laying in Wait

Series; Twelve Animals of the Zodiac

Ox: Robber Laying in Wait - Terrific scene of Minamoto no Yorimitsu (Raiko) and his men encountering the robber Kidomaru. The evil man had been laying in wait on the Ichihara Moor to attack the nobleman, disguised under an ox skin. Two of Raiko's retainers grab the struggling rogue, who waves his sword as a third samurai runs forward to assist. Raiko sits calmly astride his white horse at right as a groom holds the animal's reins. A handsome illustration from this famous tale with an attractively detailed natural setting.
