Series; The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido, 1852

Ono Waterfall at Agematsu: Bando Takesaburo I as Yorikaze - Handsome design from the only Kisokaido series by Toyokuni III, featuring bust-length portraits of actors in front of landscape scenes of the stations along the Kisokaido Road. Here, Bando Takesaburo I appears as Yorikaze, standing under an umbrella and looking off to the side. His beautiful robe is covered with a pattern of flowers and winding streams; his mon or family crest appears on the shoulders and sleeve. The night sky above is softly shaded. A fantastic image from this great series, with nice touches of embossing in the robe.
