Series; The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido, 1852

Biwa Pass at Okute: Nakamura Utaemon IV as Kagekiyo in Hyuga - Terrific kabuki portrait of Nakamura Utaemon IV as the great Heike warrior Kagekiyo in Hyuga Province. He thrusts his hands out before him clasped in prayer, with a frantic expression on his face. A string of prayer beads hangs from beneath his thumbs, and his long hair flows wildly about his face. The landscape in the background features a view of a ship sailing away on the ocean, with mountains in the distance. A great expressive figure with attractive color and fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - Approximately 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Faint vertical center fold. Minor separation at ends of fold, repaired from reverse. Minor thinning along center fold and at edges in some prints. Remnants from previous backing on some prints. Please see photos for a sense of individual condition. Generally in nice condition overall.
