Comments - Terrific kabuki scene of the Thunder God Raijin appearing to a nobleman and a samurai. The fierce horned deity appears in a bank of swirling black clouds before a waterfall, raising a drumstick in his hand as bolts of jagged red lightning zigzag across the scene. The warrior reacts with surprise, gripping his sword as he crouches, tensed and ready to spring into action. The nobleman stands quietly at right, a fan in his hand. He wears a fine purple tunic patterned with yellow butterflies and a black court cap tied under his chin with a purple cord. A dramatic image with wonderful color and graphic appeal. Includes burnishing in the black cap.
