Oyamada Bitchu no Kami Katsutatsu

Series; Twenty-Four Generals of Eastern Kai Province, One By One, 1853

Oyamada Bitchu no Kami Katsutatsu - Outstanding full-length portrait of Oyamada Bitchu no Kami Katsutatsu wearing a fearsome battle helmet with a golden dragon on it. Katsutatsu was one of Takeda Shingen's faithful "Twenty-four Generals" during the battles between Kai and Echigo provinces. He stands with feet firmly apart, a spear in his hand, ready for action, his personal standard flying from a pole attached to his back. His armor and clothing are intricately detailed and carefully colored. A fantastic 19th century samurai subject by the leading master of the genre. A great print from a series that we rarely see.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 3/4" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Slight creasing and soiling in subject. A couple small stains and tears along edges. A few small holes in subject, repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
