Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Jin Yokkaichi Ekitei

6 mm Watanabe Reprint - This beautiful woodblock was published by the Watanabe Company and bears the important Watanabe round 6 mm seal. These old Watanabe prints are some of the finest woodblock reprints ever done. Watanabe began using the 6 mm seal after World War II ended, and it was in use from 1946 to 1957. These terrific Watanabe reprints are a wonderful way to collect a masterwork from the Edo era at an affordable price.

Comments - Terrific view of the postal service building in Yokkaichi in Tokyo. The beautiful two-story structure features a pillared porch with a balcony and a clock in the pediment above. The street is crowded with traffic, including a rickshaw and an officer riding on horseback. The building beyond flying a flag is the national bank. A wonderful design with terrific architectural detail. This subject was used for a Japanese postal stamp in 1970. Nicely colored with fine shading in the sky.
