Utamaro (1750 - 1806) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Enjoying the Evening Cool on the Banks of Sumida River

Comments - A beautiful woodblock reprint of Utamaro's wonderful triptych of beauties strolling along the Sumida River enjoying the fireworks display and the cool evening weather. The crowded Ryogoku Bridge and many boats are silhouetted in the background against an evening sky. In the center panel, a man fires a rocket from a boat, a trail of red sparks curling across the sky. A fantastic print showing this classic summer pastime in Edo, with beautiful soft color, bokashi shading, and fine detail. Would make a great framed presentation.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 15 1/4" x 30 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Faint toning, a few small spots, a few creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
