Bando Hikosaburo as Dote no Oroku, 1867

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Bando Hikosaburo as the tobacco seller Dote no Oroku. She looks over her shoulder with an unhappy expression as she pushes aside the boldly patterned doorway curtains, her slightly open lips revealing blackened teeth indicating her married status. She wears a blue checked outer kimono over a black and white checked under robe, carrying a lamp in her hand. Her hair is pulled back into a simple knot, a small comb slipping loose at the side. An expressive figure and a handsome design.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 9 3/8" x 14 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. Left edge remargined. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
