Fireworks at Ryogoku Bridge

Comments - Terrific Toyokuni I print showing pedestrians crowding Ryogoku Bridge to watch the fireworks on a summer evening. Pedestrians stroll along the foreground, enjoying the cool evening air, while pleasure boats glide beneath the bridge pilings. At lower right, red paper lanterns hang from the roof of a shop or tea stand, where bamboo mats are partially unrolled to provide air. A rocket shoots into the air at left, sending rays of red light across the starry night sky. Wonderfully detailed, with expressive figures and a terrific setting. A great illustration of this popular summer custom.
