Comments - Beautiful triptych depicting Prince Genji and a group of beauties visiting a peony garden. The young nobleman stands in the center, wearing a coat with a bold pattern of an eagle in flight and pine trees over a blue-violet and green print kimono. He grins happily at the courtesan approaching at left, who wears an elegant black outer robe with a design of maple leaves, tied with a red obi featuring a white rabbit and waves. Her kamuro or child apprentice follows behind her in a purple robe with a maple leaf print, another kamuro standing at right in a similar kimono. The garden behind them is filled with oversize peony blossoms in yellow, red, and white shaded with blue, under a bold blue and white checked roof, which adds a handsome graphic impact. Beautifully printed with fine bokashi shading, and embossing in the white areas of Genji's coat, the white kimono trim, and the rabbit's fur. A lovely and colorful Edo era design.
