A Bathhouse in Edo

Comments - Fantastic scene of courtesans in a very elegantly furnished bathhouse. The beauties relax in the foreground, resting her hands atop a slender pipe. At right, a porcelain teapot sits on a warmer, and shelves are stacked with lacquer boxes. Behind them a man in a blue and white cotton kimono balances on one foot as he washes his toes with a cloth. Steam rises from the hot bath in the adjacent room. A fascinating subject with beautifully drawn detail in the Westernized interior setting and sumptuous kimono fabrics.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Small tear at bottom edge, a few small holes, repaired, blends well. Creasing and soiling, slight rubbing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
