Series; Eisho's Album of One Hundred Varieties of Birds (Eisho Hyakucho Gafu)

Eisho's Album of One Hundred Varieties of Birds - Fantastic design from a series of woodblock prints of birds of Japan by Tsuchida Eisho, edited by the artist Takeuchi Seiho. Published in four volumes from 1914 to 1925 by Unsodo, these carefully observed renderings depict birds in all manner of attitudes, with several drawings on each page showing different positions or details of feathers and other anatomy. Some are single pages, while others include up to five panels for one subject. Beautifully hand colored with subtle tones and soft shading, these marvelous illustrations bring these birds to life on the page. A rarely seen Taisho era series and a wonderful choice for a collector.

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. Stitching holes along one side of each panel from folio inclusion. Toning, a few small spots. Some prints have slight soiling or a few creases. Please see photos for sense of individual condition. Generally in good condition overall.
