Comments - Terrific illustration from the classic tale of the 47 ronin of the morning after the night attack on Moronao's palace. Having avenged their master's death, the 47 ronin returned to Sengakuji Temple to lay Moronao's head on Lord Hangan's tomb. They gather outside the imposing structure, with their leader, Yuranosuke, sitting on a folding stool, recognizable by the inverted comma crest on his shoulders. Others are still trudging up the snowy hill at left as a rosy glow spreads along the horizon with the rising sun. Each figure is carefully identified with a yellow name cartouche, each still wearing the trademark black and white dogtooth bordered robe over his armor. They solemnly await the arrival of the authorities, knowing that their actions will require them to commit suicide themselves. A handsome design with wonderful detail and an attractive winter setting with snow-covered pines framing the view.
