Fierce Fighting at Pyongyang Displays the Japanese Spirit to the World, 1895

Comments - Interesting scene from the Sino-Japanese War of fighting at Pyongyang. Japanese warriors wearing short blue or black robes over blue pants struggle in hand-to-hand combat with the Chinese. In the center, a soldier grapples with two attackers simultaneously, grabbing the gun of one while pushing away a sword in the other's hand. At right, a Japanese warrior lifts a large rock with both hands, threatening a Chinese man on the ground before him, who lifts up his clasped hands as he pleads for mercy. At far right, another Japanese solider breaks the wooden pole of a Chinese flag as fighting continues all around. An atmospheric image with beautiful shading in the ground and sky.

Artist - Shinichi Fujiwara (active circa 1894 - 1895)

Image Size - 28" x 14"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some toning at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
