Courtesan with a Phoenix Obi

Comments - Lovely portrait of a courtesan strolling through the Yoshiwara on a spring night. She wears an interesting outer kimono patterned with maples leaves with a scene of courtiers below, tied with an obi featuring a magnificent phoenix with colorful feathers above paulownia blossoms. She smiles sweetly as she looks ahead, her hair elegantly arranged with many maple leaf hairpins. A low bamboo fence behind her encloses a garden filled with yellow flowering shrubs and blossoming cherry trees. A beautiful, classic Edo era beauty portrait.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Faint remnants from previous backing on reverse and along left-hand edge. A couple small tears along edges, repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
