Bando Shuka I as Osan, 1847

Comments - Lovely kabuki portrait of Bando Shuka I as the brine carrier Osan. She grins happily as she looks back, balancing a yoke over her shoulder with two pails of seawater for processing into salt suspended from it. She wears a lovely plum colored kimono patterned with a vision of the Dragon King's underwater palace issuing in a cloud of smoke from a large shell, a straw apron tied around her waist. A beautiful design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 10" + margin

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A couple small tears and holes in subject and along edges, repaired from reverse. Faint spotting in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
