Ashikaga Tadayoshi, 1842 - 1843 - Interesting portrait of the warrior Ashikaga Tadayoshi preparing for a Noh theater performance. He sits on a black lacquer stool before a large mirror, examining his reflection with a frown as an attendant kneeling before him holds up a fierce-looking mask. He wears a flowing red wig and a green vest patterned with white pompoms, the sleeves of his red kimono stretched out to the sides. Strangely, orange smokes swirls up around the lower left side of the mirror. A handsome and unusual design, nicely detailed.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 7 1/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Faint toning along edges and backed with thin paper. Minor spotting in subject with remnants from previous backing along right-hand edge. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
