Original Kunisada III (1848 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Couple and Elderly Pilgrim, 1897

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a young couple exchanging glances while standing in a field, stacks of grain at right. They wear matching black kimono with floral print obi. The woman holds a white cloth between her hands while the man pushes up the sleeve of his robe. The round inset at right features an elderly samurai on a pilgrimage, a string of prayer beads draped over his ear and a walking staff in his hand. An intriguing subject, with fine detail in the faces and hairstyles, including embossing in the elder's white hair.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 3/8" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A couple small holes near edges, repaired from reverse. Faint spotting and soiling in subject with light creasing in margins. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
