Noblemen Viewing a Mock Battle, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Fantastic scene of a military exercise taking place for a group of noblemen, who sit in a pavilion atop a stone wall overlooking the courtyard below. Two groups of samurai are battling each other with wooden lances, one set wearing red vests and the other brown vests. At either side, a general directs his men, waving a tasseled command baton as the troops rush forward, clashing their weapons. At right, a retainer watches from a tall drum tower, with pine trees and mountains beyond. A fascinating subject with wonderful detail.

Artist - Sadahide (1807 - 1873)

Image Size - 28 5/8" x 14 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Slightly toned. Some light rubbing and soiling at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
