Prince Genji and Beauties Collecting Seawater, 1865

Comments - Attractive triptych showing Prince Genji at the shore, watching three beauties collecting seawater in buckets for processing into salt. He smiles happily as he looks over his shoulder, wearing an elegant red brocade coat trimmed with tassels over a purple kimono with a white floral pattern in the center. The woman in the center carries a yoke with two brimming pails attached to it. At left, one beauty dips her pail in the splashing surf while the woman behind her dries her back with a towel. A pine tree frames the view at right, with many sails dotting the horizon in the distance. A charming subject, nicely detailed and colored.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14" x 27 7/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Horizontal center fold in each panel. Multiple wormholes and small holes, mostly near edges, repaired, blends well. Slight soiling and wrinkling. Please see photos for details.
