Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two commoners pausing at the foot of a bridge. At left, Shosaru Shichinosuke holds a woman's metal hairpin in his hand, frowning unhappily as he looks up. He wears a blue and gray checked kimono over a black undergarment, a dotted towel draped over his shoulders. At right, the sake shop clerk Yoshiro holds a checked cloth in his hand, looking to the side with a rather worried expression. Wisps of hair frame his face, giving him a rather disheveled appearance. A few boats are anchored in the water for the evening, with the buildings and bamboo yards on the opposite shore in darkness beneath the night sky. The actor at left is Ichikawa Kodanji IV. A handsome design with expressive faces and fine bokashi shading in the background.
