Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Danshichi Kurobei, 1855

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Danshichi Kurobei, a street knight who ends up killing his father-in-law during an argument, an offense punishable by death. Here, he pushes aside the boldly checked curtains hanging in a doorway, peering out with a grim frown. He wears a blue and white summer kimono pattern with all kinds of sea life, including a variety of fishes and octopuses. An interesting design, nicely composed.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 10" x 14 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Some light toning at edges. Some light rubbing and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
