Heian Era Beauty and Nobleman

Comments - Attractive triptych depicting a Heian era beauty standing inside a palace as a nobleman waits outside. She smiles sweetly as she looks back at him, waving a folding fan above her head. She wears a beautiful lavender kimono with a delicate design of scrolls and stylized birds over a white kimono tucked into flowing red hakama pants, the fabric trailing beneath her feet. Her long hair falls straight over her shoulders, reaching to the floor. The nobleman scowls unhappily, his hands resting atop the wooden porch. He is dressed in a green brocade tunic patterned with paulownia and a black court cap. Two ladies-in waiting watch with interest at right. A lovely design with beautiful color and detailing, including burnishing in the black cap and embossing in the white kimono. A beautiful Chikanobu design.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 1/2"
