Comments - Terrific early kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as Soga Goro, the younger of the famous Soga Brothers. The samurai lifts his woven straw hat with one hand for a better view, scowling unhappily. His other hand rests on the edge of his sword, and he leans forward on one knee, ready to spring into action. A handsome inro (small lacquer case) hangs from his waist. An attractive subject from the early years of hand-colored woodblock prints.
