Hustle and Bustle at Nihonbashi Bridge in Tokyo, 1870

Comments - Lively depiction of the busy Nihonbashi Bridge in Tokyo, which bustles with traffic. At right, a carriage full of foreigners crosses into the street, drawn by a team of two horses. In the center, a bearded Westerner in a red coat rides a curious three-wheeled machine, using handles to steer it. At right, laborers push and pull a cart piled with straw-wrapped bundles, a beauty and a man walking behind them. Warehouses line the river, with a notice board at left and a view of Mt. Fuji in the distance. A terrific image with wonderful detail.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Horizontal center fold in each panel. A few wormholes, a few small holes, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling, faint staining. Please see photos for details.
