Street Knight in an Anchor Kimono, 1862

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of the actor Seki Sanjuro as an otokodate or street knight holding an umbrella. He grimaces angrily as he looks ahead, wearing a striking black kimono patterned with an anchor and ropes above splashing waves, with a compass over one shoulder. He wears tall geta sandals and has a dotted towel draped over his back. A nice expressive figure, with fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Yoshiharu (1828 - 1888)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A few small holes repaired from reverse with light toning along bottom edges. Minor rubbing near edges with some faint spotting and soiling in subject. One horizontal crease running through subject with wrinkling in bottom left-hand corner. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
