Battle during the Sino-Japanese War

Comments - Dramatic scene of troops fighting during the Sino-Japanese War. An officer on horseback at left urges his men forward with a wave of his sword as gunners behind him aim a cannon. Imperial forces meet the Chinese soldiers in the tall grass of the valley, shots exploding overhead and clouds of smoke billowing across the battlefield. At lower right, a Japanese soldier kneels atop a fallen enemy, grabbing hold of his pigtail as he screams while another solider prepares to stab him with his bayonet. Other men behind them are using their guns as clubs, ready to dash them down against the Chinese. A rather disturbing picture of hand-to-hand combat during the war. Nicely detailed with fine detail and burnishing in the black uniforms.

Artist - Nobukazu (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 27 3/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams and backed with thin paper. A couple small stains in center and left-hand panels. Light spotting throughout with one area of ink bleeding in center panel. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
